“Yoga teaches us to cure what need not be endured and endure what cannot be cured.”
- B.K.S. Iyengar
What is yoga?
Yoga is a practice of connection. Yoga is derived from the root word, yuj, meaning to connect or unite. Yoga is about relationship – with ourselves, at the physical, mental, energetic level, with others, and with the infinite.
Yoga is a practice of action. Yoga is so much more than how your physical body moves on your mat. An intentional yoga practice can change how you see yourself, how you take care of yourself, and how you live daily life.
Yoga is a practice of liberation. The practice of yoga is about freedom from the illusion of separateness. As you transform yourself, you also transform the people you meet and the environments you inhabit.
Components of Yoga I Address
-
Physical Asana
Yoga asana is a method to cultivate sthira (steadiness) and sukha (ease) in the body. My instruction emphasizes anatomical alignment and creative adaptation to meet your body. Props and environmental supports are explored to help you develop a home yoga practice.
-
Pranayama/Breathwork
In Sanskrit, prana means life force energy and yama, to gain control. Thus, pranayama cultivates energy by gaining mastery of our breath. It can both invigorate and calm the nervous system and is a powerful tool to support your day-to-day sense of wellbeing.
-
Meditation
Meditation is the ultimate goal of physical and breath-based yoga practices. Learn mindfulness, visualizations/guided imagery, and heart-centered meditation techniques to relax the mind, reduce pain and reactivity, experience union and greater liberation.
